Garages, boiler rooms and smaller halls are usually equipped with concrete floors. These have been used for a long time, but as soon as they get old they need to be renovated. Over time, they can crumble and crack. This then offers the option of removing and replacing the floor or just making it firm in some way. What is best then - PVC tiles, a concrete coat or classic tiles?

Applying a coat of paint is not as easy as it might seem

The cheapest and seemingly simplest option is a concrete coat. However, its implementation is quite complicated. The floor must first be cleaned and leveled, it is even recommended to sand the floor with a special sander. The paint must be applied in several layers, with the top layer being the strongest due to the load.

Advantages:

  • Inexpensive solution,
  • Creates a uniform appearance of the floor.

Disadvantages:

  • With a smooth coat, the floor becomes slippery,
  • Damage caused by chemicals, warm tires and road salt in winter.

With a new concrete floor, the worst thing is to remove the old covering.

Another option is to use concrete again. Putting a new layer on top of the old and brittle one is not recommended as it may not support the new layer. This approach is particularly unsuitable if it has to withstand high loads (for example with a garage floor). Installing the new floor is easy, but removing the old floor means extra work.

Advantages:

  • very quick installation,
  • no damage caused by long and heavy objects and cupboards.

Disadvantages:

  • Waiting time for the floor to mature is,
  • without insulation the floor is cold,
  • if you cannot remove the old floor yourself, the costs increase significantly.
