The floor in a motorhome is one of the most important insulation elements and must be taken into account under all circumstances. This is why most owners of mobile homes and mobile homes pay the most attention to this when renovating. But which soil variant is the best? Does thermal insulation made of polystyrene make sense, should you use linoleum and what does a carpet actually look like?
One thing is protecting the underside from the outside. As a rule, the manufacturer already provides this with a protective layer against moisture, salt and chippings, but the layer must be renewed from time to time. The other thing is the maintenance of the floor from the inside. The overview of the solutions shows the options in the event that not the entire floor, e.g. B. due to rot, must be removed. It is only necessary to finish the surface so that it lasts longer.
One of the options is to have a classic wooden floor in the motorhome. However, it must be cared for carefully because moisture penetration could cause damage. You have to use a breathable paint so that the wood can breathe. The problem is that a wooden floor is hard and uncomfortable to walk on for long periods of time. If you have children who play on the floor, a wooden floor is completely unsuitable. The advantages include easy cleaning, e.g. B. Animal hair can be easily swept up. It is a good choice if you are building a retro motorhome, otherwise you will probably opt for a more modern solution.
If you need to repair an old motorhome, opt for materials such as: B. PVC, linoleum or modular floors.
If the floor has no defects that need to be repaired and you just have cold feet, lay carpets in front of the bed or in other places. The other option is to cover the entire floor. In any case, it is better to pay a little more and buy a stronger carpet with a higher surface weight, it can also be a heavy-duty carpet. Be aware that a carpet should not be used with shoes. A carpet doesn't make sense if you have pets; it absorbs animal hair, which is often difficult to remove even with a vacuum cleaner. Tree needles brought in from outside are also difficult to remove. The advantages include warm feet and a pleasantly soft surface.
Linoleum is often used as floor covering in mobile homes. Its big advantage is that it is easy to care for: just sweep, mop and the floor is clean. The problem is the cold feet. It doesn't matter if you go on trips in the summer months, but if the motorhome is also used in winter, a carpet is bought anyway. Shoes or slippers are best for linoleum, otherwise the floor will be too cold and if you are barefoot in the summer, all the dirt will stick to your feet.
So that the linoleum is not so cold, you can insulate the floor. However, you can forget about ordinary polystyrene, it absorbs too much moisture. Either a water-repellent polystyrene is required, or you can also use the classic Mirelon foam base. Specialist shops selling motorhome accessories will be happy to advise you.
PVC coverings can also be used for motorhomes and mobile homes. They are suitable for repairs to older motorhomes, especially for do-it-yourselfers who want to do everything themselves. The Terramondi PVC tiles are installed quickly; all you need is a rubber mallet. The pieces can be easily cut to fit in all corners. Maintenance is just as easy as with linoleum, but the floor covering differs in its good insulating properties. This floor covering is therefore particularly suitable for motorhomes that are driven all year round.

Which floor in front of the motorhome?
There are similar options here. You cannot use linoleum, carpets and modular flooring are possible. Carpets are more difficult to clean. From time to time he has to use a jet of water and ricecleaning agents. In this case, we cannot recommend the Fortelock tiles as outdoor flooring, just like any PVC, they do not like sun and high temperatures. Modular floors like Fortelock are simply washed with water and a cleaning agent and can be stored well. Fold-out grates and polyethylene tiles are also good choices.
There is a solution for everything and all of the options mentioned are possible. Linoleum can be insulated and a mat can be placed in front of a carpet to prevent dirt from getting in. Each of us just likes something different.
