Of all the interior floors you can buy today, vinyl is the one that's rising to the top. In terms of sales figures, it surpasses best sellers such as: E.g. ceramic, wooden or laminate floors. Why?

Vinyl flooring is made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which is where the name comes from. It became popular in the second half of the last century and has been evolving ever since. Nowadays, these floors are more resistant, they take less time to assemble, and there are countless textures to choose from that can imitate wood or stone. The structure has also changed.

More and more people want to live healthily, so over time the current vinyl floors have been developed, which are completely harmless to health and environmentally friendly. They consist of a few layers with various functions, the upper tread serves for protection, protecting the floor from being stepped on and worn.

The effort involved in laying depends on the specific type.

The vinyl floor coverings are produced in a number of variants and differ primarily in the laying method.

If vinyl parts are used the existing unevenness must first be corrected. The individual parts are then glued to the base with a special adhesive, which requires a specialist. Only an experienced professional can best determine when the adhesive is properly vented and ready for laying the vinyl tiles. They are suitable for bathrooms, kitchens and also stairwells. They are particularly useful for places with a lot of people (schools, offices, shopping centers) because they can withstand high loads.

Self-adhesive floor: Vinyl floors sold in rolls and sold as self-adhesive are much simpler. All you have to do is remove the protective film and then press the floor covering firmly onto the surface. This is an extremely quick and easy variant. Here too, a perfectly flat floor is required; any unevenness would be immediately noticeable. Installation is possible anywhere where glued parts would be used, even in rooms with moisture. They are quieter than the freely laid variant, therefore better for rooms where children are present (e.g. living room).

Freely laid floor with click system If you would like to have a freely laid floor without gluing, the vinyl with click system is the right choice. Click vinyl flooring is made by gluing a classic vinyl floor covering to a load-bearing base, which increases its durability. The result is a thicker floor covering (approx. 5 to 10 mm), but even a layman can install it - the principle is similar to classic paving stones, nothing is glued. Because of its strength, it is useful in all places where thermal insulation is required.

Terramondi vinyl tiles Terramondi tiles are a very special type of vinyl floor covering. They are assembled as building blocks on a leveled base, and from the point of view of installation, this is an extremely quick floor covering. Here too, nothing needs to be glued and the individual tiles are very easy to replace. Thanks to the surfaces and resistance to heavy loads, Terramondi is a good solution for garages.

What are the advantages of vinyl floors?

  • They are softer than tiles or wood because they have a thin layer of felt or foam.
  • They are manufactured in countless designs, including imitation wood and stone.
  • Among the advantages is undoubtedly theirs exceptional resistance, they last approx. 15 to 20 years.
  • Under certain circumstances they can be laid directly on the existing surface without having to destroy the old floor.

What are the disadvantages?

  • Gluing the floor covering is not complicated, but the previous leveling can be a little difficult.
  • It is a soft surface pleasant to walk on, but scratches occur more quickly, e.g. B. when moving furniture. If you have decided on the individual part variant, only one part can simply be replaced. Otherwise canA repair kit can also be used, but this will only cover up small scratches.
  • Thin versions (some vinyl floors are only 2 mm thick) can easily be walked through or punctured.
  • Problems could arise with significant temperature fluctuations, so the expansion joints must be taken into account when laying. Vapors can also condense beneath the surface, destroying the base.

Vinyl flooring is used in commercial spaces, offices, living rooms, bathrooms and kitchens. The glued versions are also suitable for rooms with underfloor heating. Although the prices are a lot higher than alternative floor coverings, that doesn't make them any less popular. The tempting features include the many designs, high resistance to wear and tear and easy installation. Housewives are pleased with the ease of cleaning without the need for special cleaning products. Are there any other reasons to choose vinyl flooring?
